Nittany Valley Little League

Volunteer coaches are vital to the operation of our league as we strive to teach the youth of our community the importance of teamwork, discipline, commitment and the joys of playing a team sport. Coaching youth baseball and softball can be hard work, but also one of the most fun and rewarding experiences you will ever know. Nittany Valley Little League greatly appreciates the dedication of our volunteer coaches and we encourage all those interested to register for the following coaching positions. 

Baseball/Softball Head Coach

  • Selected by Coaching Coordinator and Approved by Nittany Valley Board of Directors based on available openings for the coming season.
  • Primary point of contact from NVLL to the team. Required to attend monthly Board Meetings and facilitate all communication from the the league. Including solicitation of team information, distribution and collection of fundraisers and coordinating volunteers for concession stand.
  • Ensure all applicable rules, requirements and safety compliance are followed during practices, games and supporting NVLL activities.
  • Select and manage assistant coaches. (Maximum of 3 game assistants for Majors/Minors Divisions).
  • Schedule and manage practices based on field availability. Determine practice plans and delegate responsibilities to assistants.
  •  Manage games per League Schedule. Coordination with other Head Coaches to re-schedule games as necessary. For Major/Minor Divisions, manage the recording of game scores and statistics and report scores to the League.
  • From April through May, Head Coaching time commitment can exceed 12 hrs/week for Majors/Minors, 9 hours/week for Coach Pitch and 3-5 hrs/week for T Ball and Pee Wee Softball. Time is allocated primarily during weekdays from 5-8pm.
  • Head Coaches are required to participate in League provided safety training.

Baseball/Softball Assistant Coach

  • Selected by Head Coaches and approved by Nittany Valley Board of Directors.
  • Assist Head Coach as needed or assigned during practices, games and supporting NVLL activities; including the enforcement of all applicable rules, requirements and safety compliance. For Major/Minor Divisions, assist in the recording of game scores and statistics.
  • From April through May, Assistant Coaching time commitment is more flexible than that of a Head Coach but can exceed 8-10 hrs/week for Majors/Minors, 6-8 hours/week for Coach Pitch and 2-4 hrs/week for T Ball and Pee Wee Softball. Time is allocated primarily during weekdays from 5-8pm.
All Volunteers are required to provide a Government issued ID at time of registration. Once approved by the Nittany Valley Board of Directors, volunteers must submit to a background check and provide record of required clearances
